Work with us

Moto Zero is open and growing. Here is who we are looking for and why, how to work with us, and what you get from joining the community.

01Why we are looking for you

Moto Zero is an open course and repair library for the people who keep motorcycles running: riders, fundis, technician trainees and fleet mechanics, petrol and electric. It is free, and it gets better with every person who uses it and tells us what is missing. We are a small team at Transitions Lab; we are looking for people who know the machines, the classrooms, the languages and the places where motorcycles matter most.

02How to work with us

  1. Create a free account on the account page. It lets you comment, share photos and message the team.
  2. Tell us who you are and what you would like to do: send a message from your account, or use the contact form.
  3. We reply and agree a first step: a pilot, a review, a set of photos or models, a translation. Small is fine.
  4. Your work is credited on the page it improves and on the Sources and credits page.

Training centres and workshops

Moto Zero was written for classrooms and workshop floors. We want to know where it works and where it does not, from people who teach every day.

  • Pilot one module or the repair guides with a class of apprentices or fundis.
  • Tell us which chapters, quizzes and job sheets worked, and which were too hard or too easy.
  • Use the free PDFs, plates and 3D models in your own lessons (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Fleet operators

Boda boda, delivery and taxi fleets, petrol or electric, keep bikes on the road with their own mechanics. Their daily faults are the best guide to what the course should teach.

  • Train your mechanics with the course and the repair guides, at no cost.
  • Share the faults and parts that cost you most, so we write the pages you need first.
  • Ask about branded bikes and training for your team on the Brand a bike page.

Mechanics and engineers

Every repair page should be checked by someone who has done the job many times. Practical review makes the guides safer and more useful.

  • Review repair steps, warnings and the problem pages in your field.
  • Share the faults you see most and the checks you use to find them.
  • Send photos of real jobs and broken parts (with permission of the owners), so the guides show what a fault looks like.

Translators

Many mechanics learn best in their own language. The language picker translates pages by machine; reviewed translations are better.

  • Review machine translations of the key repair pages in Kiswahili, French, Portuguese, Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia or another language you know well.
  • Build a short glossary of workshop words as mechanics really say them.
  • Help us choose which pages to translate first.

3D artists

The Overview, the model library and the Bike builder run on real 3D models, cut into named parts. More bikes and parts make the course reach more people.

  • Model bikes and parts that are common where you live, following the naming rules in the model library.
  • Improve existing models: detail, materials, cut-away views.
  • All models are published CC BY-SA 4.0, credited to you.

Partners and funders

The course, the tools and the repair library are free. Partners help us bring them, and electric motorcycle training in particular, to more places.

  • Fund a module, a translation, a pilot or a set of 3D models.
  • Host a pilot in your programme, city or country.
  • Link Moto Zero to your own training or electrification work.

03Why join the community

  • Learn from real jobs. Comments and photos under every repair, problem and part page show what other riders and mechanics found on their bikes.
  • Get answers. Ask a question on any page or message the team from your account.
  • Keep your progress. Your course progress is saved to your account and is the same on every device.
  • Download everything. Account holders download the 3D models, plates and course PDFs.
  • Members-only content appears on your account page: early modules, job sheets and training material.
  • Shape what comes next. The pages people ask for are the pages we write first.

Read the community guidelines to see how comments and photos work.
